TRAINING CAMP FOR SUSSEX SPANIELS IN FINLANDThe first, historic training camp for Sussex Spaniels outside of Great Britain was organized in Finland 12.-13.9.2009. Training place was a hunting cottage in Elimäki near Kouvola. The Camp was organized in co-operation with Kymen Spanielit (A regional Spaniel Club) and SSSI. Kyme Spanielit organized the training place, one shooter and game birds. The trainers, other shooter, interpreter and accommodation for participants was organized by SSSI. The trainers came from Danmark Anne Lydeking and Svend Willumsen. On the first day some lessons of how to handle and breed dogs was on the programme; especially concerning hunting and also personal training for every dog (all the dogs were young). Anne and Svend told all participants what they could do with their dogs. This was possible because we had an interpreter who translated Anne's and Svend's presentations straight from Danish to Finnish. On the second day the shooters came and we moved to a hunting area. Svend is very well known as a Judge in Danmark for all kind of Spaniel trials. He was also here as a Judge. First Anne showed with her dog Avelon how the hunting will happen. After that every participants tried to find a bird and after shooting retrieve the bird . Svend gave his statements and evaluations to everyone personally. The participants were very satisfied with training and also Anne was very proud of being in such a historic situation ; as a first hunting trainer for Sussex Spaniel outside of Britain.
